writing-prompt-s:
You wrote a novel about a demon falling in love with a human. Then, you summon a demon in order to get “real” feedback and constructive criticism. To your surprise, the demon laughs at your work.
The demon is trying hard not to laugh.
You can tell from the slight shaking of shoulders, the hand that is basically holding back the laugh, the fact that their fangs are bares as they try to hold onto their composure.
It’s somehow nostalgic, slightly familiar and you blink as you stare.
But then the demon gives in, barking out laughter as they read something, the manuscript hitting their knee as they try to restrain themselves.
“If I didn’t know better, I’d thought you remembered everything!”
You stare at the spectacle, try to figure out what would be funny enough to cause such a reaction.
A small tug pulls at your heart, pushed aside as you realize something.
“Wait, remember what?”
The demon ignored you, composes themselves and looks over the manuscript before closing it.
*It’s a good story.“
They look over at you, a claw tapping lightly at the paper.
“Not too predictable and slightly realistic.”
They drop the story in front of you.
“You did well.”
The words make your heart squeeze, without really a feeling to place blame on.
You blink, glance from the manuscript back to the demon.
“um-”
The demon simply waves you away, stands and begins to walk away from you.
The summoning circle you had used to summon it glows slightly, the magic activating once again.
The demon steps lightly onto it, turns around to give you one last look.
“If that is all, then I’ll be going now. Let’s try not to make this a habit though; not all demons are going to be as reasonable.”
There’s an ache in your heart now, enough of one that you stand.
“And what about you?”
The demon gives you a look, something much more human than they probably thought it to be.
It makes the pain in your heart explode.
“I won’t be coming back.”
And then the magic bursts, the circle fading as the demon leaves only a last message.
“This time, is surely the last.”
